Festival of archeology and underwater photography
EN - We are pleased to present ABBA FEST, our project for an exciting festival of archeology and underwater photography which will take place from 9 to 13 October 2024 in a unique landscape context in the world: the La Maddalena archipelago in Sardinia. An ambitious project designed for a national and international audience that combines a passion for history, culture and the marine environment in a unique and educational tourist experience.
The underwater archeology and photography festival aims to celebrate the rich historical and ecological heritage of the seabed of the Maddalena National Archaeological Park, a geomarine park that extends over an area - between land and sea - of 18,000 hectares and 180 kilometers of coastline .
This initiative combines the enthusiasm of lovers of archeology and underwater photography and offers the opportunity to explore and document the underwater wonders of this unrivaled territory for beauty and richness.
ABBA FEST is inspired by the Sardinian term that defines water, namely "abba", and the name already advertises the magical place in which this event will take place: a place made of coves and coves, crystal clear sea and uncontaminated nature waiting to be explored.
WHO IS IT FOR?
The Festival is open to a wide audience, and all collateral activities are accessible for free. Scuba diving, however, requires the payment of a fee and is reserved exclusively for an expert audience, made up of underwater photographers or archaeologists with a license for diving within 15 metres. A reservation is required to participate in the dives, and priority will be given to those residing within the Festival location.
LOCATION
Abbatoggia Village is located on La Maddalena island.

Upon request, by sending the form on this site, it is possible to stay overnight in the Abbatoggia Village, the place where the festival will take place.
GOALS
- Promotion of Historical Heritage: The festival aims to reveal the rich history hidden beneath the waters surrounding the Archaeological Park of La Maddalena. This area has witnessed historical events crucial and the project will provide a unique opportunity to explore shipwrecks and archaeological finds that they tell stories of the past.
- Environmental Awareness: The event will promote awareness of the importance of conservation of the marine environment. Local experts will guide members on guided dives educational, illustrating the marine ecosystem and raising awareness of the challenges of environmental protection marine.
- Educational Experience: The festival will offer workshops and seminars held by expert archaeologists and photographers divers, providing participants with the opportunity to deepen their knowledge and skills.
- Deseasonalization of tourism: in the current scenario in which mass, undifferentiated tourism and generalized, forms of experiential tourism are increasingly being replaced, it becomes it is essential to focus on the unique and distinctive factors of the territory and local identity for promote tourist attractiveness policies; from this perspective, the festival aims to raise awareness of the sea of La Maddalena in a new way and outside the common tourist circuits.
KEY ACTIVITIES
- Guided dives: Members will have the opportunity to participate in dives guided by divers local, accompanied by experts. These dives will take them to sites of historical interest and environmental.
- Interactive Workshops: Workshops covering various aspects of archeology will be organized diving and underwater photography. Participants will learn the techniques of documentation and underwater image capture.
- Uplifting Conferences: Renowned experts/guests will give talks on history, culture and the environment marine life of the region, providing a complete context for diving experiences.

IT - Siamo lieti di presentare ABBA FEST, il nostro progetto per un emozionante festival di archeologia e fotografia subacquea che si svolgerà dal 9 al 13 ottobre 2024 in un contesto paesaggistico unico al mondo: l'arcipelago di La Maddalena in Sardegna. Un progetto ambizioso pensato per un pubblico nazionale ed internazionale che unisce la passione per la Storia, la cultura e l’ambiente marino in un'esperienza turistica unica e formativa.
Il festival di archeologia e fotografia subacquea mira a celebrare il ricco patrimonio storico ed ecologico dei fondali marini del Parco Archeologico Nazionale della Maddalena, un parco geomarino che si estende su un'area - tra terra e mare - di 18.000 ettari e 180 chilometri di costa.
Questa iniziativa unisce l'entusiasmo degli amanti dell'archeologia e della fotografia subacquea e offre l'opportunità di esplorare e documentare le meraviglie sottomarine questo territorio ineguagliabile per bellezza e ricchezza.
ABBA FEST si ispira al termine sardo che definisce l'acqua, ovvero “abba”, e il nome già pubblicizza il luogo magico in cui si svolgerà questo evento: un luogo fatto di cale e calette, mare cristallino e natura incontaminata tutta da esplorare.
A CHI E' RIVOLTO
Il Festival è aperto a un pubblico ampio, e tutte le attività collaterali sono accessibili gratuitamente. Le immersioni subacquee richiedono invece il versamento di una fee e sono riservate esclusivamente ad un pubblico esperto, composto da fotografi o archeologi subacquei muniti di brevetto per immersioni entro i 15 metri. Si richiede una prenotazione per partecipare alle immersioni, e si darà priorità a coloro che risiedono all'interno della location del Festival.
LOCATION DEL FESTIVAL
Il Fesyival verrà svolto all'interno dell'Abbatoggia Village, sull’isola di La Maddalena, situato al centro di una piccola penisola circondata da quattro stupende baie e da meravigliose spiagge.
PERNOTTAMENTO
Su richiesta, mediante invio della form presente su questo sito, è possibile pernottare all'interno dell'Abbatoggia Village, luogo dove verrà svolto il festival.
OBIETTIVI
- Promozione del Patrimonio Storico: Il festival mira a rivelare la ricca storia nascosta sotto le acque circostanti il Parco Archeologico di La Maddalena. Questa area è stata testimone di eventi storici cruciali e il progetto fornirà un'opportunità unica per esplorare relitti e reperti archeologici che raccontano storie del passato.
- Consapevolezza Ambientale: L'evento promuoverà la consapevolezza sull'importanza della conservazione dell'ambiente marino. Gli esperti locali guideranno gli iscritti in immersioni guidate educative, illustrando l'ecosistema marino e sensibilizzando sulle sfide della tutela dell'ambiente marino.

ATTIVITÀ CHIAVE
- Immersioni Guidate: Gli iscritti avranno l'opportunità di partecipare a immersioni guidate dai diving locali, accompagnati da esperti. Queste immersioni li condurranno verso i siti di interesse storico e ambientale.
- Workshop Interattivi: Saranno organizzati workshop che copriranno vari aspetti dell'archeologia subacquea e della fotografia subacquea. Partecipanti potranno apprendere le tecniche di documentazione e cattura delle immagini subacquee.
- Conferenze Edificanti: Esperti/Ospiti rinomati terranno talk sulla storia, la cultura e l'ambiente marino della regione, fornendo un contesto completo alle esperienze subacquee.
